Partners FOR the Saskatchewan River
Basin (PFSRB), a non-profit charitable organization established
in 1993, is a network of partners committed to increasing
stewardship of the Saskatchewan River basin. The basin covers
420,000 square kilometres, spans three provinces and one state,
and includes Canada's fourth longest river. PFSRB increases
stewardship by creating greater public awareness, partnerships
and action programs. Since 1993, PFSRB has implemented 23
education projects, planted about 20,000 tree seedlings throughout
the basin, held workshops and conferences, established 14
stream monitoring groups, and created The River Current newsletter.
PFSRB is currently promoting it
new hands-on watershed stewardship program for youth called
Water Watchdog. This program will increase understanding about
water quality and water management issues in the Saskatchewan
River Basin and throughout the prairie provinces. In spring
2003, free Water Watchdog kits will be available to youth
across the Prairies by contacting PFSRB toll free at 1-800-567-8007
or ordering on-line at www.saskriverbasin.ca Through public
and private partnerships, PFSRB promotes a sustainable future
for the basin.
Project WET Saskatchewan
Project WET Saskatchewan helps
teachers and youth leaders to teach our young people to appreciate
the importance of water and to be able to make wise decisions
about its use.
The Project WET K-12 Activity Guide
contains 91 lively, hands-on activities. Saskatchewan Learning
recommends project WET for use in the classroom. It is also
cross-referenced with the Guides and Scouts Canada programs.
Teachers and youth leaders learn
more about water and water issues through Project WET workshops.
The Activity Guide for Kindergarten to grade 12, the cross-reference
guide and the Canadian Supplement are included in the package.
Project WET offers learning materials
about special topics such as wetlands, water critters and
water quality. The EarthSongs music CD and videos were made
right here in Saskatchewan!
Project WET was introduced to Saskatchewan
in 1996. It is now used in other Canadian provinces and territories.
The program began in North Dakota and it is now used throughout
the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
